The Music of Shaun Davey featuring Rita Connolly, Liam O’Flynn & the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.

July 2010 marks 40 years since the first ever National Youth Orchestra of Ireland course in 1970. What better way to celebrate the forces of the classical symphony orchestra and our Irish heritage than to bring both together by performing Shaun Davey’s The Brendan Voyage with Ireland’s master Uilleann piper, Liam O’Flynn. Composed in 1980, The Brendan Voyage was, and still is a groundbreaking and daring musical meeting between an Irish solo uilleann piper and a symphony orchestra.

In keeping with the collaboration of traditions, Rita Connolly will also take to the stage with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland to perform Granuaile featuring an intimate circle of friends and musicians including Liam O’Flynn (uilleann pipes), Helen Davies (Irish harp), Noel Eccles (percussion), Des Moore (acoustic guitar) and Shaun Davey (vocals).
