Since 1970 over 2000 young Irish musicians have made wonderful music together, working with well-respected tutors, world renowned conductors and superb soloists. And, as those of you who are past members of  IYO & NYOI know, that as well as the music your time together has forged friendships, fun and unforgettable memories.

Every player auditions each year for their place in an NYOI orchestra and can be rightly said to be one of the country’s finest young classical musicians of their time.. After gaining a place they take part in residential courses twice a year, all in an effort to create something special for our loyal and valued audiences.

The musical experience with NYOI is of the highest calibre, but the learning doesn’t end there. The work done by NYOI facilitates something quite amazing; our players develop social skills that will take them far in any discipline or career. Learning to perform on stage in groups of over 100 young musicians requires phenomenal skills of concentration, focus and team work, commitment and cooperation.

We have great plans for NYOI in the future but we need the help of our friends so that we can continue to nurture the education of our country’s finest young classical musicians; musicians who go onto greatness in every sphere of life. We invite you to share in this journey and witness just how fantastic the experience of music-making can be. To this end the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of NYOI Friends.

Being an NYOI Friend will keep you in touch with us, give you information of our upcoming concerts and events and, hopefully, you will be able to re-new old friendships at those events and create many more unforgettable memories.
