2010 - Happy 40th Birthday NYOI!

You will never forget your days in the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, whether it’s the amazing music you played, the fantastic tour you went on, the brilliant friends you met along the way or the mischief you got up to!

To celebrate NYOI’s 40th Anniversary we are bringing together past & present members for an unforgettable night of wonderful orchestral music.

The NYOI 40th Anniversary Gala Concert will be on Sunday 28th November 2010.

We are now calling for interest from former members, if you would like to be part of this special event please email us with:

  1. Your up-to-date contact details
  2. Instrument
  3. Approx dates of when you played in nyoi
  4. A short note detailing your playing to date. Do you play professionally or just for fun?
  5. Confirmation that you can commit to a rehearsal on Saturday 27th November in Dublin and the Gala Concert on Sunday 28th November

The programme for the event is a work in progress, we welcome suggestions and will update you shortly.

If you don’t want to play in the 40th Anniversary Orchestra but are interested in attending the event please put the date in your diary and update your contact details with us for news of an x-nyoi reception at the event.

2005 - NYOI 35th anniversary!

 

Former members were invited to the re-union weekend, 1st, 2nd and 3rd July, in Cork. Committee members for the reunion weekend included: Paraic Casey, Deirdre Cronin, Jane Daly, Gerry Kelly, Hugh McCarthy, Tomas McCarthy and in Dublin Charlie McCarthy. Honorary members Rosina Joyce, director of IAYO, who kindly provided the venue for committee meetings, and Joanna Crooks, general manager of NYOI. The official opening by the Lord Mayor of Cork on Friday, the Saturday evening social and the post-concert reception on Sunday took place at the Clarion, Lapps Quay, Cork. Conducted by Robert Houlihan, with Elizabeth Cooney as Leader, the concert was presented by Liz Nolan, RTÉ lyric fm. The programme included the Peterloo overture by Arnold, Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien and Dvorak's Symphony No 8.

 

In performance at our Cork re-union concert

 

The NYOI orchestra was in Cork to attend the X-NYOI performance on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday evening at 6:30 pm they gave their own concert, to which the X-NYOI players were invited. Conducted by Gearoid Grant with soloist Catherine Leonard, their programme included Aisling by Cork composer Declan Townsend, Tchaikovky's violin concerto and Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony.

 

Both Concerts on July 2nd and July 3rd in City Hall Cork were benefit concerts for the children's charity BARNARDOS.
