The Board of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland (NYOI) today announced the appointment of Anna Rosa Mari as the orchestra’s new General Manager.
“Following in the steps of some formidable and gifted leaders, including most recently Carol-Ann Trela, Anna will be the sixth woman to take up this key role in Ireland’s musical life” said NYOI Chairman Tom Boland.
“She will bring new perspectives and significant experience from her work with young orchestral artists at the highest level in Europe and America. This is of particular value as the NYOI embarks on an ambitious new strategic direction with the support of our public funders in the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and the Arts Council.”
Anna Rosa Mari is a highly experienced manager with 10 years’ experience in arts education, management and artistic leadership. She currently serves as Academic Director of OAcademy: The Orchestra of the Americas Group – her role being to design and lead a hybrid digital conservatoire for rising professional musicians globally. Anna is also an award-winning flautist, orchestral musician and recording artist.
After a short period, as she transitions from her current role to NYOI, Anna will take up her new role in mid-February.
Now in its 51st year, the NYOI is Ireland’s premier ensemble for talented young musicians from Ireland’s 32 counties. Its 104 members gather twice a year in intensive rehearsal for national and international concert tours and its alumni play in every professional orchestra in Ireland, as well as many in Europe and further afield.
The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland’s winter concert will be in Helix Theatre, Dublin on Wednesday 3rd January 2024 at 3pm, with a programme of Mel Bonis Le Songe de Cléopâtre, Sibelius Violin Concerto and Debussy La Mer under the baton of Corrina Niemeyer and with violin soloist Mairéad Hickey.
